The Triton 03371-1 10 Inch Left Hand Electric Brake Assembly is a Dexter 10" Standard Manual Adjust Left Hand Brake Complete Assembly.
The electric brakes on your trailer are very similar to the drum brakes on your car. The basic difference is that your car brakes are activated by hydraulic pressure, whereas your electric trailer brakes are activated by an electromagnet. This brake measures 10" x 2-1/4".
This electric brake assembly fits Dexter 3,500 lb axles and most 3,500 lb trailer axles. Dexter Part # 023-026-00
Ask the Triton Expert
"Why are my surge brakes locking up when I backup the trailer?"
If you are locking up the surge brakes on your trailer, you have a problem with what we call the free backing valve. When you back up, you compress the surge brake system, and the fluid pressure applies the brakes, not allowing you to backup and/or park. The free backing valve is energized when the vehicle is put in reverse and opens the fluid flow, thus relieving the pressure. No pressure means no brakes to stop you from going backward. The center pole of the 7 round plug is this wire that goes to the tow vehicle's reverse lights. Some vehicle manufactures have the wire active for reverse lights on trailers like campers and toy haulers.
If you have problems, please check the valve, the tow vehicle wiring and the wiring to the free backing valve to troubleshoot what is wrong. Make sure the vehicle's wire is activated and on.
On older trailers with a flat five plug, the 5th wire is for this free backing valve. A pigtail wire should be ran to the reverse lights of the tow vehicle or a converter adapter should be used to go from a flat 5 to a round 7 plug.
