The Camco 11533 RV Water Heater Anode Rod with Drain measures 4.5 inches long and has a patented magnesium anode rod for aluminum water heaters (Atwood style). It preserves the life of your water heater by corroding itself so your water heater tank doesn't. Replace your 1/2 inch pipe thread drain plug with the Camco RV Water Heater Anode Rod to extend the life of your RV water heater. An internal drain valve allows you to drain your water heater without tools and sealer.
Installation Instructions
1. Turn the water heater's gas regulator to the OFF position.
2. Allow water in the heater tank to cool, or open a hot water faucet inside the RV until water temperature is cool.
3. Turn off the water supply.
4. Open a hot water faucet or T&P valve to release line pressure.
5. Remove the drain plug of the water heater tank using a 7/8 inch socket. Older models may have a square head drain plug.
6. Apply teflon tape to Camco's RV Anode Rod. Wrap 3 to 5 turns only in the same direction that you tighten the rod.
7. Insert Anode Rod and tighten until snug. Use caution. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. Use only 7-8 ft. lbs torque. Hand tighten drain valve by turning handle clockwise.
8. Turn on water supply to RV. While filling the hot water heater, open the hot water faucets inside the RV. Allow water to run until all air is forced from water lines, then close the faucets. Water heater should now be full.
9. Examine the RV Anode Rod for leaks and tighten if necessary.
Camco recommends inspecting your anode rod monthly. Over time, minerals can build up around the drain plug opening making the removal of your anode rod difficult, and frequent inspection will help prevent this. Drain water heater by turning drain valve handle counter clockwise.
For maximum performance, replace your RV Water Heater Anode Rod when less than one half of the rod remains.
