Tips: RV Winterization For Do-It-Yourselfers
Winterizing your RV can be a simple process, if you just follow the steps. The following is the best recommended method for preparing the RV water lines for Winter:
1. Drain fresh water tank. 2. Drain hot water heater. 3. Dump and flush both black and gray water holding tanks, leave gray water valve open. 4. Screw compressed air adapter (also called a blow-out plug) into the fresh water inlet. The adapter is available from most RV dealers. 5. Apply compressed air, keeping the pressure less than 20 lbs/sq inch. 6. Open each faucet, one valve at a time, allowing the compressed air to force the water out of the line. Don't forget the shower and toilet. 7. Remove the drain plug from the hot water tank and allow the compressed air to blow out the remaining water. Reinstall drain plug. 8. Remove the compressed air source and adapter. 9: Close the water heater by-pass valve. (SEE SPECIAL WATER HEATER NOTE BELOW) 10. Remove the water line that runs between the fresh water pump and the fresh water tank, where it joins the fresh water tank. 11. Insert the end of the line into a gallon jug of RV Plus antifreeze. (NEVER-NEVER-NEVER USE AUTOMOTIVE ANTIFREEZE!!!!!!!). 12. Start the fresh water pump. It will run for a few moments, sucking antifreeze from the jug. It will stop as pressure in the system builds up. 13. Open each valve of each faucet, one at a time, until the red antifreeze appears, shut the faucet. Don't forget the shower and toilet. 14. Remove the line from the jug of antifreeze and reattach it to the fresh water tank. HINT: For a few dollars you can buy and install an adapter that will eliminate removing and reinstalling the fresh water line. It is a small three way valve that goes in the fresh water line, between the fresh water tank and the pump. You can easily pump antifreeze throughout the system by inserting the tube attached to the valve into a gallon of RV Plus antifreeze, turning the valve and starting the pump. Simply turn the valve back to its original position and you are done. 15. Shut the gray water valve. 16. Pour a few cups of antifreeze down each drain and the toilet. 17. You are done.

Getting your snowmobile trailer ready for the season is just as important as tuning up your sleds for the trails. With proper care and maintenance, your snowmobile trailer will keep on going and keep up with you this Winter. Use the following checklist as a reminder of how to get your snowmobile trailer ready after storage:
1. Be sure to thoroughly wash and detail your trailer with a gentle car soap or RV wash soap to protect any painted snowmobile trailer parts and sealants. 2. Remove the wheels and hubs or brake drums. If you have trouble breaking the lugs free, a few sprays of Corrosion Block CB-12 will help. Then, check the suspension and brake linings for wear. 3. Lubricate each of the moving brake parts. 4. Look over the trailer for any rust. Clean off any rust with fine sandpaper and a soft cloth. Spray the previously rusted area with Corrosion Block CB-12 to halt the spread of corrosion. 5. Check oil or grease seals and replace if worn. Grease the trailer joints and axles with a recommended grease for trailer applications like Corrosion Block Grease. 6. Clean and lubricate the wheel bearings with Corrosion Block Grease or replace bearings if necessary. 7. Inspect the tires for wear prior to re-installing them or replace them with a new pair. Check tires for proper inflation and inflate tires to the recommended PSI. Don't forget to check the spare. 8. Connect your trailer to the hitch on your vehicle, fasten safety chains and check that the attachment is secure. If unable to secure the towing hookup, inspect the hitch for proper wear and lubrication. Adjust your hitch to a level towing position. 9. Connect and check the trailer lights for proper operation during braking and signaling. A few sprays of Corrosion Block CB-12 is also recommended to protect and lubricate the trailer plug connection. Replace non-functioning trailer lights/bulbs. If still not functioning properly, re-wire or replace the trailer plug connection. 10. Install your new trailer accessories.
